Freelance writer at Confidential
September 2007 - January 2011
My interest in political and health care policy led me to begin two books, in addition to relevant political complications.
Compelled by possible RICO violations by defined sets of physicians, the diminishing ROI on our healthcare dollars, and the paradigm change that began in the 1970s, which marked, to some, the 'Golden Age of Medicine," I began my career as a clinician several years later, in a state notably backward in many respects.
I have been writing for years, and hope to publish soon. I applied because I have been unable to find an investigative reporter willing to take on simultaneous complex issues that need to be discussed in the public sphere. I feel very limited by my nest egg as it pales in comparison to lobby groups and PACS who stand to change the face of health care even more in the cause of their enrichment.
The Mental Health Parity bill achieved passage through the machinations of several of these self-motivated groups, and the Oath of Hippocrates has been relegated to folk symbol. The apparatus of medicine is controlled by huge and uncontrollable forces, as befits the for-profit lobby - the monolith.
I have researched, filed FOIA papers, hired attorneys and spoken other physicians. I am tapped out, and need some assistance of any sort - research, clerical, legal and legislative.

1995 - 2008
I worked as an Emergency Medicine Resident at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Upon completion of a four year residency, I became Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. For a period of three years, beginning in 1997, I worked at Central Mississippi Medical Center, a tertiary care center in Jackson, MS. The first two years were as a resident "moonlighting," and then I was asked to join the group Jackson Emergency Physicians. I left CMMC to work a more flexible schedule at River Oaks Hospital, also in Jackson, MS. I was on the medical staff there through 2007. I worked for multiple locum tenens agencies, including Medical Doctors of America, The Schumacher Group, and Weathersby; these positions were all as a locums physician, allowing me to work throughout the state with great flexibility.

As a volunteer and sole physician, I supervised 3 nurse practitioners who practiced under my license. We reviewed protocols, and once a week I saw the more complex patients.
I worked to obtain medications for those who were unable to purchase medications or navigate government aid programs. I supervised the nurses and office personnel while in clinic. I twisted arms to get friends to take referrals.

Founder at Healthscreen Inc.
June 1997 - December 1999 | Jackson, MS
With two partners, we built a mobile pulmonary testing service which became the premiere service in the US, serving clients in 48 states and Puerto Rico.
Founder at Healthscreen Co
September 1997 - January 1999
I originated the concept of a truly professional health screening company, and recruited top professionals as partners and contract clinicians. We also had a permanent staff of 40 technicians and office based personnel. I developed a revenue model, and within a year we were profitable, with revenues of several million dollars per year within 2 years. Our initial investment was a small contribution from the three original partners, and a bank loan of $25,000, paid in full from first revenues. We identified and outsourced accounting and legal help from excellent firms. We eventually conducted business in 48 states and Puerto Rico. Our medical directors had impeccable credentials. I selected equipment, refined training procedures, and hired a general manager who was incredibly competent and enthusiastic. I sold my shares to my partners, after completing my residency in Emergency Medicine. Changes in healthcare and the legal environment eventually led the partners to close the business after a very successful run of 6 years. Our employees still get together, and we were always known as an excellent place to work.
